TALAYAN, Maguindanao del Sur — Another milestone in the province’s continuing pursuit of peace was achieved as two warring clans formally settled their long-standing rido (clan feud) in a ceremony held on Wednesday, August 20, in Talayan.

The peace pact was forged between Camsa, also known as Ahay, of Barangay Linantangan, Shariff Saidona, and Samsudin Eskak of Barangay Tuayan, Datu Hoffer. Representing the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces–Moro Islamic Liberation Front (BIAF-MILF), the agreement brought together commanders from two major base commands: Commander Esmail Salim of the 105th Base Command, Datu Hoffer, and Commander Ahay Palaguyan of the 128th Base Command, Shariff Aguak.

The event, held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, was spearheaded by Maguindanao del Sur Governor Datu Ali Midtimbang and Provincial Police Director Colonel Sultan Salman H. Sapal. Security was provided by the Talayan Municipal Police Station, with support from the 1st Mechanized Battalion of the Philippine Army.

Governor Midtimbang and Colonel Sapal lauded the initiative as a crucial step in reducing hostilities and ensuring stability in the province. “This settlement is another proof that lasting peace is possible when we choose dialogue over violence. The Philippine National Police remains steadfast in supporting all peacebuilding initiatives to ensure the safety, unity, and progress of our communities in Maguindanao del Sur,” Sapal said.

The settlement underscores the collective efforts of local authorities, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the PNP, community leaders, and other stakeholders who continue to work hand in hand to resolve disputes amicably.

Beyond ending a violent feud, the agreement is seen as a symbol of renewed hope — replacing gunfire with laughter, strengthening community ties, and ensuring a more promising future for the children of Maguindanao del Sur.
