MATI CITY, Davao Oriental – The Provincial Government of Davao Oriental has officially turned over a newly constructed Halal Slaughterhouse to the City Government of Mati on August 15, 2025, in Sitio Sudlon, Barangay Central.

The project, implemented through the Provincial Veterinary Office with support from the Department of Agriculture and the local government, is designed to strengthen food safety, livestock production, and economic growth in the province.

The modern facility is expected to produce more than 200,000 kilograms of meat annually, valued at around Php 90 million. This is seen as a major boost to the local economy, generating higher income for farmers and livestock raisers while ensuring the availability of safe, high-quality products for consumers.

Built to comply with halal standards, the slaughterhouse guarantees that the slaughtering and meat processing strictly follow religious and international regulations. With this, Davao Oriental aims to expand its access to the growing halal market, both locally and abroad.

Beyond its direct economic contributions, the facility is also anticipated to create more employment opportunities and open up prospects for businesses in logistics, transport, and meat distribution.

The turnover of the Halal Slaughterhouse reflects the strong collaboration between provincial and local governments in pushing for inclusive development, ensuring that not only Mati City but also farmers, entrepreneurs, and consumers across the province benefit.

Davao Oriental continues to position itself as a model of progressive governance in Mindanao by investing in initiatives that balance economic growth, food security, and cultural sensitivity.
