DAVAO CITY – A 34-year-old construction worker was killed while his wife and infant were injured after he was hacked by his older brother in the early hours of Sunday, July 20, 2025, in Pandian Compound, Purok 1-B Baring, Barangay Wangan, Calinan District.
The victim, identified only by his alias Jay, was attacked around 3:00 a.m. inside their home. His wife, Gerly, and their 11-month-old child were also wounded in the incident.
The suspect, identified as June, 39 years old, is the victim’s older brother.
According to police investigation, the brothers had been drinking together along with Gerly prior to the attack. When they ran out of liquor, June reportedly left to buy more. Upon returning, he confronted his wife over suspicions of an affair with his younger brother, Jay.
Following the confrontation, June’s wife fled with their three children and hid in a nearby pineapple plantation.
June then allegedly stormed the home of Jay, who was asleep with his wife and child. When Jay tried to protect his family, the suspect attacked him with a machete. Gerly, who attempted to help her husband, was also struck in the head, while their baby sustained a wound to the leg.
Authorities also reported that aside from machete wounds, Jay’s head had been smashed with a stone.
Gerly and the child were rushed to a hospital. The baby is now in stable condition, while Gerly continues to receive treatment at the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC).
Police have arrested the suspect, who is now in custody at Calinan Police Station 10. He will face charges of murder and frustrated murder.
