MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur — July 19, 2025 — A decades-long rido, or clan feud, involving families from the municipality of Lumba Bayabao was peacefully resolved today in a landmark reconciliation held at the Capitol Gymnasium in Marawi City.
The successful mediation was spearheaded by Vice Governor Mohammad Khalid “Mujam” Raki-in Adiong, who emphasized the vital role of sustained peacebuilding efforts in the province. The rido had spanned over 24 years, impacting generations and hindering development in the affected communities.
The reconciliation was made possible through the concerted efforts of various stakeholders, including the Provincial Government of Lanao del Sur, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, the Council of Elders, the Provincial Ulama Council, local officials, the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and most importantly, the involved families, who demonstrated humility and a sincere commitment to peace.
“Every rido that we resolve creates a new opportunity for greater unity,” said Vice Governor Adiong. “I will persist in advocating for peace, as it is the true basis for a more prosperous Lanao del Sur.”
The event was marked by emotional reunions, prayers, and symbolic gestures of reconciliation, reinforcing the shared desire among the parties to put an end to hostilities and move forward as one community.
Local leaders hailed the resolution as a significant step toward long-term stability in Lanao del Sur, calling it a model for other conflict-affected areas in Mindanao. It also underscored the importance of collaboration among traditional leaders, religious authorities, and government institutions in addressing the root causes of local conflicts.
As the province continues its journey toward recovery and development, today’s peaceful settlement adds momentum to the broader efforts for social cohesion and inclusive growth in the Bangsamoro region.
