KALAMANSIG, Sultan Kudarat (June 19, 2025) — Three alleged members of the communist terrorist group were killed while one government soldier made the ultimate sacrifice during a fierce encounter between government troops and armed rebels in Barangay Datu Ito Andong, Kalamansig, shortly past midnight on June 19.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Christopherson Capuyan, commander of the 37th Infantry “Conqueror” Battalion, their troops were conducting a decisive military operation when they engaged in a gun battle with communist rebels reportedly led by Eusivio Cranzo, also known as alias “Agaw” or “Brix.”

The firefight lasted for over an hour and resulted in the deaths of three rebels, all of whom were facing multiple criminal charges, including several counts of attempted murder, frustrated murder, and murder. Government troops recovered three M16 rifles, several magazines, ammunition, and personal belongings at the scene.

Tragically, one soldier was killed in the line of duty. He was hailed as a hero for defending the community and ensuring the safety of civilians from the threat posed by the armed group.

Brigadier General Michael A. Santos, commander of the 603rd Infantry Brigade, has ordered intensified pursuit operations against the remaining members of the rebel group to safeguard peace and security in the province.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family of our fallen hero who gave his life for the safety and peace of our people. At the same time, as fellow Filipinos, we will accord a decent burial to the slain rebels as a gesture of respect for human rights, despite their misdirection,” Brig. Gen. Santos said.

Major General Donald M. Gumiran, commander of the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division and Joint Task Force Central, also expressed grief over the incident.

“We deeply mourn this tragedy. Although from opposing sides, those who perished are still our fellow Filipinos. We appeal to the remaining members of the armed movement—lay down your arms and join the path to peace. The government remains open to those who wish to return to civilian life,” Maj. Gen. Gumiran stated.

Military operations in the area continue to ensure the safety of residents and to maintain peace and order in the region.
