Antipas, Cotabato — A 60-year-old farmer was arrested after allegedly attacking his drinking companion with a machete during a heated argument in Barangay Kiyaab, Antipas, Cotabato, shortly past midnight on May 15, 2025.

The suspect, identified only by the alias “Jo,” is a resident of the said barangay. The victim, also from the same area, was identified by the alias “Ba.”

According to the Antipas Municipal Police Station, the two men were drinking at the victim’s residence around 11:30 p.m. when a heated altercation broke out. The dispute escalated into violence, with the suspect allegedly striking the victim on the head with a bolo (machete).

Responding quickly to the incident, the duty alert team rushed the wounded victim to Arakan Valley District Hospital in Barangay Magsaysay for immediate medical attention.

Authorities immediately launched a hot-pursuit operation, leading to the suspect’s arrest at his home around 2:05 a.m. on May 16. He is now under police custody and undergoing further investigation. A case of frustrated homicide is being prepared against him.

The Cotabato Police Provincial Office called on the public to promptly report any suspicious activity or behavior to the nearest police station to prevent violence and ensure swift response to incidents.

“The continued cooperation between law enforcement and the community is key to maintaining a safe and peaceful environment,” the police office emphasized.
