Koronadal City – Barangay Information Officers (BIOs) actively participated in the “Risk Communication Training for Barangay Information Officers,” spearheaded by the City Information Office and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO). The training, which runs from March 27 to 29, aims to enhance the capabilities of BIOs in effectively disseminating disaster-related information to their respective communities.
The training covers key topics such as:
- The Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) System
- Understanding Risk Communication
- Risk Communication in the Four DRRM Thematic Areas
- Risk Communication Planning Process
Experts from the Office of the Civil Defense Region XII and the Provincial Government of South Cotabato serve as resource speakers, providing insights and guidance on effective risk communication strategies.
BIOs Urged to Be Responsible Information Managers
CDRRMO Officer Cyrus Jose J. Urbano emphasized the importance of responsible reporting and social media management among the BIOs. He warned against the dangers of spreading misinformation, stressing that false news can have severe consequences for the community.
“Be responsible social media managers and news disseminators,” Urbano urged the participants.
Meanwhile, Urbano also expressed his appreciation for the organization of BIOs across the 27 barangays of Koronadal City. He assured them of continued support through additional capability-building seminars in the future.
