Tagum City Selected as Pilot City for the AutoCAM Project

Tagum City, Philippines – Tagum City has been officially chosen as one of three pilot cities for the Automated Land Use and Zoning Compliance Assessment and Monitoring using Remote Sensing and GIS (AutoCAM Project), an initiative under the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) through the Environmental, Land Use, and Urban Planning and Development Bureau (ELUPDB).

The AutoCAM Project is a significant component of the PLANADO Program, designed to streamline the monitoring of land use and zoning compliance through advanced geospatial technology and near real-time data collection. This initiative aims to enhance urban planning and development, ensuring that cities can adapt to the challenges posed by land conversion and climate change.

On October 23, 2024, Tagum City’s representation at the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding was led by Councilor Jose Joedel T. Caasi, Chairperson of the Committee on Housing and Land Utilization, along with Ar. EnP. Louella May Apurada-Dumadag, MSc, City Planning and Development Coordinator. The signing took place in Quezon City, marking a key milestone in the city’s commitment to modernize its urban planning strategies.

Undersecretary Henry L. Yap, Arch, EnP, also underscored the project’s importance in protecting communities against risks associated with land conversion and climate change.

Alongside Tagum City, the other two pilot cities selected for the AutoCAM Project are Bago City and Zamboanga City. This initiative is expected to pave the way for more efficient and effective urban management, ensuring that land use regulations are adhered to while fostering sustainable development in these regions.

With this recognition, Tagum City is poised to lead the way in adopting innovative technologies that contribute to smarter urban growth and resilience against environmental challenges.
