Eight Barangays and Two Municipalities in Northern Mindanao Declared Drug-Free

CAMP ALAGAR, Cagayan de Oro City – The Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing (ROCBDC) declared eight barangays and two municipalities in Region 10 as drug-cleared during its 5th Deliberation Meeting held at the Provincial Capitol in Mambajao, Camiguin on September 26, 2024.

Out of nine barangays that applied for drug-cleared status, five were successfully declared drug-free, while three were placed under probationary status and one deferred for further evaluation. Additionally, two municipalities that applied for drug-cleared status were both declared drug-free.

This development brings the total number of drug-cleared barangays in Region 10 to 1,558, which represents 83.49% of the region’s 1,866 drug-affected barangays.

The barangays declared drug-cleared include:

  • Brgy. Capinonan, Cabanglasan, Bukidnon
  • Brgy. Palacapao, Quezon, Bukidnon
  • Brgy. Puntian, Quezon, Bukidnon
  • Brgy. Danatag, Baungon, Bukidnon
  • Brgy. Basagad, Balo-i, Lanao del Norte
  • Brgy. Sugbongcogon, Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental
  • Brgy. Sangalan, Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental
  • Brgy. Cabalawan, Magsaysay, Misamis Oriental

In addition, the municipalities of Claveria in Misamis Oriental and Sapad in Lanao del Norte were declared drug-free.

Despite these gains, 308 barangays in Region 10 remain affected by illegal drugs.

PBGEN Jaysen C. De Guzman, Acting Regional Director of PRO10, expressed his strong support for the ongoing anti-drug campaign, commending the collaborative efforts of local government units, law enforcement agencies, and the community.

“We are resolute in our commitment to eradicating illegal drugs in Northern Mindanao. PRO10, with the active support of the community and other agencies, will remain dedicated to the government’s intensified campaign to eliminate illegal drugs in the region. I call on everyone to support us in this effort to attain a drug-free region,” PBGEN De Guzman stated.

The efforts to clear barangays and municipalities of illegal drugs form part of the government’s broader mission to curb drug abuse and ensure a safer and healthier environment for all communities in the region.
