Davao City proudly celebrates the 22nd anniversary of its Central 911, an emergency response unit under the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DCDRRMO). Established in 2002, Central 911 has become the lifeline for countless residents, responding to emergencies, saving lives, and maintaining the city’s safety.
Central 911 was the first integrated emergency response system outside of the United States, modeled after the US 911 system. Over the years, it has grown into a premier public safety service, handling a wide range of emergencies from medical crises to fire and rescue operations. Today, it serves as a vital component of Davao City’s disaster preparedness and public safety infrastructure.
In recognition of its extraordinary contributions, Central 911 was inducted into the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s Hall of Fame during the 22nd Gawad KALASAG Special Awards for the Best Government Emergency Management Response Team category. This prestigious award further cements Central 911’s reputation as a leader in emergency response and disaster preparedness in the Philippines.
Davao City’s Central 911 is equipped with a comprehensive array of emergency services, including ambulance services, urban search and rescue, fire suppression, K9 operations, and disaster management. The unit operates 24/7, with highly trained personnel who respond to various emergencies in real-time. Over the years, the unit has effectively coordinated responses to natural disasters, accidents, health crises, and more, serving as the city’s backbone during times of crisis.
In 2023 alone, Central 911 responded to over 90,000 emergency calls, providing critical support during medical emergencies, fires, road accidents, and other incidents. The unit’s swift and effective response has helped reduce the severity of emergencies and saved numerous lives.
