A 42-year-old man survived after being shot in the head during an early morning shooting incident in Bayabas on Tuesday, May 12, according to authorities.

In an incident report released by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the victim, identified only by the alias “Randy,” sustained a gunshot wound on the right side of his head during the attack that occurred around 4:44 a.m. in Purok 3, Magobawok.

Emergency responders from the SERTSS Bayabas Team CHARLIE immediately rushed to the scene after receiving the report. The responding team was led by Diomedes Guibao, together with personnel Ruben Azon, Melissa Silvoza, Junesha Medico, and Daniel Minguito.

Upon arrival, responders found the victim still conscious and responsive despite the serious injury. Emergency medical assistance was immediately administered before the victim was transported to ASTMM Center in Tandag for further treatment.

Authorities have yet to identify the gunman or determine the motive behind the attack.

In a strongly worded statement, the Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Office condemned the shooting and assured the public that all efforts are being undertaken to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Police described the incident as an isolated case and emphasized that it should not cause unnecessary fear among residents of the province. However, authorities said they are conducting a thorough investigation to uncover the real motive behind the crime.

The provincial police office also confirmed that pursuit operations are ongoing while investigators continue examining all possible angles of the case.

“We will never stop until the suspects are identified and justice is served,” the police statement said.

Authorities also appealed to the public for cooperation, urging witnesses and anyone with relevant information to immediately coordinate with the nearest police station. Investigators stressed that even the smallest detail could significantly help in solving the case.

The shooting has alarmed residents in the quiet municipality, as police intensify efforts to track down those responsible for the violent attack.
