Marihatag, Surigao del Sur — Government forces uncovered materials used in the fabrication of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during a focused security operation in Sitio Palompon, Barangay Mahaba on April 12, 2026, in what authorities described as a significant step in weakening the operational capacity of communist terrorist group (CTG) remnants in the region.

The operation was launched after a concerned citizen reported the presence of suspicious war materiel in the area, prompting an immediate response from troops of the Delta Company, 75th Infantry Battalion, under the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel Earl C. Pardillo. The unit coordinated closely with personnel from the 1st Civil-Military Operations Company and operated under the supervision of the 401st Infantry “Unite N’ Fight” Brigade, led by Colonel Glenn Joy U. Aynera.

Upon reaching the site, government troops discovered four gallons of Nitro Energetic Molecule, a substance believed to be used in the production of improvised explosive devices. The materials were promptly secured and transported to the Palompon Patrol Base for proper handling and disposition.

Military officials said the recovery of these components highlights the continued vigilance and operational readiness of security forces in addressing persistent threats posed by insurgent elements. The seizure is expected to significantly disrupt the ability of CTG remnants to carry out attacks against government forces, civilian communities, and critical infrastructure.

Authorities also emphasized the crucial role of civilian cooperation in the success of the operation. The tip-off from a local resident enabled troops to act swiftly, preventing the possible use of the explosive materials in future violent activities.

Colonel Aynera commended both the troops and the local community for their coordinated efforts, underscoring the importance of public participation in sustaining peace and order.

“We commend our troops and the vigilant communities for their collaboration and courage. The seizure of these materials is part of our continuing efforts to cripple the CTG’s armed capability and eliminate its remnants,” Aynera said.

He added that such operations form part of a broader campaign to dismantle the logistical and support networks of insurgent groups operating in the North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC).

The military continues to intensify its security operations across the region, working in close partnership with local government units and communities to prevent threats, safeguard lives, and push forward efforts toward long-term peace and stability in Mindanao.
