INDANAN, Sulu — April 6, 2026 — A long-standing rido that once fueled tension between two communities in Sulu has been peacefully resolved, marking a significant breakthrough in local peacebuilding efforts and offering a renewed sense of hope for conflict-affected areas in the province.

The historic settlement involved families from Barangay Ajid in Indanan and Barangay Lower Laus in Talipao, whose dispute had persisted for years. Instead of violence, the resolution unfolded through a carefully facilitated process anchored on dialogue, cooperation, and mutual understanding.

The peace settlement was spearheaded by the 1103rd Infantry (Kalis) Brigade under the leadership of Brigadier General Emmanuel L. Cabasan, whose guidance ensured a structured and nonviolent approach to conflict resolution. Military officials highlighted that the success of the initiative was the result of sustained coordination and trust-building efforts with the concerned parties.

Key groundwork was laid by the 41st Infantry “Partner for Peace” Battalion, led by Lieutenant Colonel Genesis R. Gabrido, and the 100th Infantry (Kalasag) Battalion under Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Bayongasan. Both units played a crucial role in opening communication lines between the feuding families, encouraging them to pursue peaceful dialogue instead of retaliation.

On the ground, Civil-Military Operations Officer 1LT Joebriggs P. Prado and Charlie Company Commander Christian E. Villa of the 41IB helped create an environment conducive to reconciliation, ensuring that discussions remained respectful and constructive.

The resolution was further strengthened by the presence of key stakeholders from various sectors. Representing local government units were Indanan Mayor Thong Jikiri, represented by Councilor Narjin T. Askali, and Talipao Mayor Reham S. Tulawie, represented by Councilor Hji. Uppi S. Gulam. Their participation signified strong institutional support for peace initiatives.

Law enforcement officials, including Police Lieutenant Colonel Briones, Chief of the Indanan Municipal Police Station, and Police Major Al-Nasher A. Agil, Chief of the Talipao Municipal Police Station, also attended the gathering, reinforcing the role of security forces in maintaining stability during and after the settlement.

Religious and civil society leaders likewise played a vital role in the process. Among them were Ustadz Abdurahman Alhari and Ms. Rosemain Abduraji of Tumikang Sama-Sama, whose involvement highlighted the importance of cultural and community-based approaches in resolving deeply rooted conflicts.

Observers noted that the event went beyond the mere settlement of a dispute. It symbolized the healing of relationships, restoration of trust, and the rebuilding of communities long affected by cycles of violence. It also demonstrated that even deeply entrenched conflicts can be resolved through dialogue when supported by strong collaboration among stakeholders.

The 41st Infantry Battalion reaffirmed its commitment to continue serving as a “Partner for Peace,” emphasizing that efforts will persist beyond this milestone to ensure lasting reconciliation, stronger community ties, and sustained peace initiatives across Sulu.

The successful resolution stands as a testament to the power of unity and collective action, signaling a hopeful path forward for a more peaceful, progressive, and stable Sulu.
