DATU ODIN SINSUAT, Maguindanao del Norte — Local authorities and police have successfully defused a violent feud between two groups in Barangay Badak after an altercation escalated into a shooting that left two individuals wounded, officials confirmed.

The conflict involved followers of Barangay Chairman Datu Doodie Sinsuat and Datu Eric Sinsuat, and reportedly stemmed from a misunderstanding while under the influence of alcohol. The dispute turned violent, resulting in an exchange of gunfire and injuries to both parties.

Responding swiftly, personnel from the Datu Odin Sinsuat Municipal Police Station (MPS) moved in to contain the situation, prevent further violence, and ensure no civilians were harmed. Tensions were brought under control as police secured the area and coordinated with the local government.

To prevent escalation, Vice Mayor Datu Bobsteel Sinsuat led a mediation meeting where both groups were confronted and encouraged to resolve their differences through dialogue. The facilitated talks clarified the issues, and both sides agreed to end the feud in the interest of peace and public safety.

“The local government remains steadfast in resolving conflicts through peaceful and lawful means,” officials said, reiterating their commitment to maintaining order in the municipality. Authorities also urged residents to avoid actions that could lead to violence, to observe legal processes in settling disputes, and to cooperate with law enforcement.

The successful mediation has restored calm in Barangay Badak, with the LGU and PNP emphasizing that proactive intervention and community dialogue are key to sustaining peace in Datu Odin Sinsuat.
