MATANAO, Davao del Sur — A 54-year-old man identified by police as alias “Turo” was arrested after being caught with an unlicensed firearm during a checkpoint operation conducted by the Matanao Municipal Police Station early Monday morning, November 3, 2025.
According to the police report, the checkpoint was conducted at around 7:55 a.m. in Purok 2, Barangay New Visayas, under the supervision of PLT Erwin Echavez and the overall direction of PCPT Junrey L. Torres, Officer-in-Charge of Matanao MPS.
Police said the suspect, who was riding a motorcycle, was stopped after officers noticed a running violation due to the absence of side mirrors. PMSg Alfie Asan, an LTO-deputized personnel, flagged down the motorist to issue a Temporary Operator’s Permit (TOP).
While the suspect was being asked to present his driver’s license and motorcycle documents, he opened his sling bag where officers spotted a .357 Magnum revolver loaded with six live rounds. The man failed to present any legal documents for the firearm, leading to his immediate arrest.
Authorities are set to file charges for violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, against the suspect.
The Matanao Municipal Police Station reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and order in the municipality through intensified checkpoint operations and strict enforcement of laws.
