LINAMON, Lanao del Norte—The Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte, through its Provincial Agriculture Office (PAgrO), successfully organized a Farmer’s Field Day and Farm Walk on March 21, 2025. The event, held at the Metro-Iligan Regional Agri-Industrial Center (MIRAIC) in Linamon, featured a Corn (Maharlika) Techno Demonstration and a Comparative Yield Performance and Adaptability Trial of Traditional Upland Rice (Denorado) and Hybrid Rice (TH82).

The initiative aimed to introduce modern agricultural techniques and assess the adaptability of different crop varieties under local conditions. Twenty farmers from various municipalities across Lanao del Norte, accompanied by their respective Municipal Agriculture Officers (MAOs), participated in the event.

One of the primary objectives of the activity was to encourage upland rice farmers to adopt new technologies as a means to compensate for the loss of farmlands being converted into commercial areas. By promoting innovative and sustainable farming solutions, the provincial government seeks to strengthen food security and agricultural sustainability in the region.

Provincial Rice Coordinator Mechelle Merambel underscored the importance of hands-on demonstrations in encouraging farmers to embrace modern agricultural practices. She emphasized that direct exposure to new technologies is essential in convincing farmers of their benefits.

Meanwhile, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member and Committee Chair on Agriculture Hon. Reinario Bihag highlighted the role of upland rice farming in mitigating agricultural land losses. He stressed the need to cultivate upland rice in interior municipalities to compensate for the diminishing lowland agricultural areas.

Farmers who participated in the event expressed their appreciation, noting that the knowledge-sharing sessions and demonstrations provided them with valuable insights. The initiative reflects the provincial government’s commitment to supporting local farmers and ensuring the resilience of the agriculture sector in Lanao del Norte.
