Compostela, Davao de Oro – Authorities from the Davao de Oro Police Provincial Office (DDOPPO), through the Compostela Municipal Police Station (Compostela MPS), continue to make strides in resolving the robbery-murder case that has shocked the community.
The incident began on December 23, 2024, when a security guard was fatally shot after reportedly intervening to rescue a bank employee during an alleged robbery outside a commercial establishment in Clarin, Compostela, Davao de Oro.
The 24-year-old guard was gunned down by two armed suspects during the brazen attack. According to initial reports, the guard and a bank teller had just exited the bank when the suspects emerged and announced the robbery. The security guard attempted to fight back but was shot in the chest, leading to his immediate death. The assailants fled the scene with the guard’s shotgun and cash amounting to PHP 3.6 million.
Arrest of a Suspect
The investigation gained momentum after authorities obtained crucial CCTV footage from an establishment in Purok 4, Poblacion, Compostela. The footage provided vital evidence leading to the identification of the suspects.
On December 24, 2024, a suspect identified as alias “John,” 40, was apprehended during a hot pursuit operation. Compostela MPS, led by PLTCOL Jesser I. Vanguardia IV, Acting Chief of Police, in collaboration with DDOPPO units, arrested the suspect after he was positively identified by a witness.
Alias “John” is now in custody as authorities prepare to file charges against him. A motorcycle believed to have been used by the suspects during their escape was also recovered and is undergoing forensic examination.
Call for Justice
The family of the slain guard is mourning his tragic death while hailing him as a hero for his bravery. The DDOPPO, with the steadfast support of the community, is committed to delivering justice and ensuring peace in Davao de Oro.
