Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat – November 22, 2024

Authorities seized smuggled cigarettes valued at ₱150,000 and apprehended a suspect during a checkpoint operation conducted along the National Highway in Barangay Cadiz, Kalamansig.

At around 12:10 AM, personnel from the Kalamansig Municipal Police Station (MPS) and the 2nd Sultan Kudarat Provincial Mobile Force Company (SKPMFC) intercepted a white minivan without a license plate. Upon inspection, operatives discovered 10 boxes of Cannon menthol cigarettes allegedly being transported without the necessary legal documents to authorize their possession and transport.

The operation led to the arrest of the vehicle’s driver, a 44-year-old married resident of Barangay Tapian, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte.

The suspect and the confiscated cigarettes are currently in the custody of the Kalamansig MPS for documentation and appropriate legal proceedings.

Acting Provincial Director PCOL Bernard L. Lao lauded the operatives for their swift action, stating, “This operation exemplifies the commitment of our law enforcement personnel in line with the directive of our Officer-In-Charge to intensify our campaign against smuggling. The seizure of smuggled goods and the arrest of the offender highlight our continuous efforts to safeguard the economic interests of our community and effectively curb illegal activities.”

The Philippine National Police (PNP) continues to step up its campaign against smuggling and other economic crimes, reiterating its dedication to protecting the welfare of local communities.
