Iligan City — The National Bureau of Investigation, through its Iligan District Office (NBI-ILDO), successfully thwarted a major illegal drug transaction on January 29, 2026, leading to the arrest of a high-impact individual and the seizure of nearly ₱2 million worth of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu.

The suspect was apprehended during a coordinated buy-bust operation conducted by NBI-ILDO in partnership with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) at a parking lot in the city. The operation culminated months of intelligence gathering and verification based on reports from confidential informants.

To ensure transparency and procedural integrity, the operation was witnessed by barangay officials, members of the media, and personnel from the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Authorities recovered three knot-tied transparent plastic sachets containing a white crystalline substance believed to be shabu, with an estimated total weight of 300 grams. Also seized were a marked ₱1,000 bill used in the transaction and approximately ₱1 million worth of “boodle” money wrapped in brown paper.

Following the operation, the suspect was presented for inquest proceedings and now faces formal charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

NBI Director Atty. Angelito DLP. Magno praised the successful interdiction, highlighting the critical role of inter-agency cooperation in combating illegal drugs.

“This successful operation is the direct result of our seamless coordination with PDEA and other government partners, proving that our unified front is the most effective weapon against those who threaten our communities with illegal substances,” Magno said.

Law enforcement authorities reiterated their commitment to intensify intelligence-driven operations and strengthen partnerships to dismantle drug networks and protect communities from the harmful effects of illegal drugs.
