Mati City, Davao Oriental — Law enforcement authorities seized an estimated ₱1.44 million worth of suspected shabu and an unlicensed firearm during the successful implementation of a search warrant in Barangay Badas, Mati City on January 28, 2026, further intensifying the government’s campaign against illegal drugs.

The operation was jointly carried out by personnel of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)–Davao Oriental, Special Action Force (SAF), Regional Intelligence Unit, Provincial Intelligence Unit, and the Mati City Police Station (CPS). The operation was led by PLTCOL Frederick C. Sa-ao, Acting Chief of Police of Mati CPS.

Arrested during the operation was a 44-year-old male suspect, from whom authorities recovered one (1) caliber .38 revolver with ammunition and several sachets of suspected shabu with a total estimated street value of ₱1,440,000.00.

Police said the operation forms part of the sustained and intensified anti-illegal drugs drive of the Mati City police to curb criminality and ensure peace and order in the community.

PLTCOL Sa-ao issued a stern warning to individuals involved in illegal activities, particularly the drug trade.

“Huminto na kayo sa paggawa ng mga ilegal lalo na sa ilegal na droga, dahil hindi kami mapapagod na habulin at hulihin kayo. Marami kayong mabibiktima na mga inosente kapag hindi ninyo ito tinigilan,” Sa-ao said.

The suspect is now under police custody and will face charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 (RA 9165) and illegal possession of firearms, pending the filing of formal complaints.

Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to relentlessly pursue individuals involved in the illegal drug trade, stressing that no one is above the law as security operations continue across Mati City and the province.
