SULTAN KUDARAT, MAGUINDANAO DEL NORTE — A 17-year-old pregnant woman died after being repeatedly stabbed by her husband—who community members say had long struggled with shabu use—in a brutal attack in Barangay Pinaring on Saturday afternoon, November 30.

Police identified the victim as alias “An,” who sustained multiple stab wounds across her body. She was rushed to the Cotabato Sanitarium and General Hospital for initial treatment before being transferred to the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center. Despite efforts to save her, the young mother-to-be was pronounced dead.

The attack happened around 3:50 p.m. and was reported to authorities minutes later by a concerned citizen, according to lead investigator PEMS Elsie Maraingan of Sultan Kudarat MPS. Responding policemen arrived to find the victim bloodied and unresponsive.

A hot pursuit operation immediately followed, leading to the arrest of the suspect, identified as 21-year-old farmer Akmad Abag, also a resident of Barangay Pinaring. Prior to his arrest, community leaders had briefly detained him to prevent escape.

Police said Abag was informed of his arrest and constitutional rights in a language he understood. He is now in police custody as investigators prepare formal criminal charges.

Authorities noted that the incident adds to the growing list of drug-related domestic violence cases in the region, with local officials expressing alarm over the recurring link between illegal drug use—particularly shabu—and severe acts of family brutality.

Documentation of the case is ongoing, and a full report will be submitted for the filing of charges. Meanwhile, police and barangay officials urge residents to immediately report signs of domestic abuse and drug-related disturbances to prevent further loss of life.
