Glan, Sarangani Province – Authorities successfully intercepted a shipment of suspected smuggled cigarettes valued at ₱314,320 in a coordinated operation off the shores of Barangay Glan Padidu on November 28, 2025.
The Glan Municipal Police Station, acting on information from a confidential informant, worked alongside the Sarangani Police Provincial Office (SPPO), PNP Maritime Group, SPPO-PIU, 1st Sarangani PMFC, and other units to conduct an on-site verification and apprehension operation.
The operation led to the arrest of one suspect, identified as alias “Alvin” or “Ber,” a 30-year-old married carpenter and resident of Barangay Lago, Glan. Other individuals reportedly involved fled prior to the authorities’ arrival.
Recovered from the suspect were eight boxes containing approximately 400 reams of King’s Perfect cigarettes, believed to have been transported from Balut Island and offloaded onto a small non-motorized banca before reaching the shallow shoreline.
The suspect has been informed of the charges, apprised of his constitutional rights, and brought to Sarangani MARPSTA for documentation and legal proceedings. He faces charges under Section 1401 of Republic Act 10863 (Customs Modernization and Tariff Act) for smuggling-related violations.
Police officials, including PLTCOL Jovenson B. Bayona of Glan MPS and PCpt. Abdel-Rahman J. Abdulhadi of the Sarangani PNP-Maritime Station, reiterated their commitment to cracking down on smuggling and safeguarding the community’s welfare.
