MIDSAYAP, COTABATO — A suspected motorcycle thief was killed while his companion escaped after a police chase and shootout in Barangay Bitoka, Midsayap, Cotabato early morning of November 9, 2025.
According to a report from the Midsayap Municipal Police Station (MPS), the encounter happened around 3:20 a.m. along the Davao–Cotabato Highway in Barangay Sadaan after a witness sought help from patrolling officers, reporting that his Suzuki Raider FI motorcycle had just been stolen.
Police immediately launched a pursuit operation that led to Barangay Bitoka, where they spotted the stolen motorcycle. When authorities attempted to intercept the suspects, one of them allegedly opened fire, prompting the police to retaliate.
The exchange resulted in the fatal shooting of one suspect identified as Pendo Akmad Balabadan, a married resident of Pikit, Cotabato. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to Dr. Amado B. Diaz Provincial Foundation Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. His companion managed to escape toward the Aleosan area.
Recovered from the scene was the stolen Suzuki Raider FI motorcycle (black and white, plate no. 832MYJ, chassis no. DL11A-525796, engine no. CJA1-732345), owned by a 21-year-old student named Ed, a resident of Midsayap.
Police Chief PLTC Rey Salgado lauded his men’s swift action, emphasizing that the prompt response prevented the suspects from further evading capture. He also assured the public that the Midsayap MPS, together with the 2nd Cotabato Provincial Mobile Force Company, Aleosan MPS, 34th Infantry Battalion, and Barangay Bitoka BPAT, continue to conduct joint hot pursuit operations to track down the fleeing suspect.
Residents have commended the Midsayap police for their rapid response, saying it reflects improved public trust and confidence in local law enforcement.
PLTC Salgado reaffirmed the police’s commitment to maintaining peace and order in the municipality, urging the public to cooperate by immediately reporting any suspicious activities or individuals in their communities.
“We remain steadfast in our duty to protect our people and uphold the safety and progress of Midsayap,” Salgado said.
