Malaybalay City, Bukidnon — A 54-year-old farmer is now in stable condition after surviving a gruesome chainsaw attack by his drunken son-in-law on the night of October 31 in Barangay Sumpong, Malaybalay City.
The victim, identified only as “Garry”, 54, suffered deep cuts on his right leg and thigh after being assaulted by his son-in-law, “Bong”, a chainsaw operator and resident of the same barangay.
According to the Malaybalay City Police, the suspect, who was reportedly intoxicated, stormed the victim’s house around 10:00 p.m. and challenged him to a fistfight. When the victim ignored the provocation, Bong left in anger — only to return moments later armed with a running chainsaw.
The terrified father-in-law tried to flee but tripped to the ground, giving the suspect a chance to strike. Bong then pressed the roaring chainsaw against the victim’s leg, causing severe injuries before fleeing the scene on foot.
Responding neighbors rushed the bleeding victim to a nearby hospital where he is now recovering. Police recovered the chainsaw used in the attack and have launched a hot pursuit operation to locate and arrest the suspect.
Authorities condemned the brutal act, emphasizing that no personal dispute justifies such violent behavior. Investigation is ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack.
Police urged the public to report any information that could lead to the capture of “Bong”, who remains at large as of press time.
