SALVADOR, Lanao del Norte — Government forces under the Joint Task Group Magbalantay neutralized a member of the Dawlah-Islamiyah (DI) Maute Group following a brief but intense firefight in Sitio Palangakon, Barangay Pawak, Salvador, on November 9, 2025.

According to reports from Camp Sang-An, the operating troops from the 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion were conducting a decisive military operation when they were fired upon by three heavily armed suspects. A 20-minute exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in the death of one armed extremist identified as Ibrahim Ampaso, also known by his aliases Ibra and Abu Raas. Ampaso was listed as the No. 4 priority target under the DI-Maute Group’s periodic status report.

After the encounter, troops recovered two M16A1 rifles, two M14 rifles, and a M203 grenade launcher, all with defaced serial numbers. Authorities also seized several Baofeng radios, rifle magazines, assorted ammunition, and smartphones, believed to be used for coordination among the extremist group.

Brigadier General Ronel R. Manalo, commander of Joint Task Group Magbalantay, commended the courage and professionalism of the troops.

“We commend the professionalism and bravery of our troops and police partners in denying violent extremist elements a haven. We remain committed to lawful, intelligence-driven operations to protect our communities,” Brig. Gen. Manalo said.

Meanwhile, Major General Yegor Rey P. Barroquillo Jr., commander of the Joint Task Force ZAMPELAN, lauded the successful operation and urged continued public vigilance.

“The neutralization of a high-value target underscores the effectiveness of coordinated operations and public cooperation. We urge citizens to continue sharing information to help dismantle extremist networks,” Maj. Gen. Barroquillo stated.

Security forces continue to monitor the area to ensure that remnants of the Dawlah-Islamiyah group are prevented from regaining foothold in the Lanao region.
