PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur — A 17-year-old college student was found lifeless inside his boarding house in Barangay San Francisco, Pagadian City, in what police believe to be an apparent suicide after ingesting poison.

The victim was identified as Derick Naya Jr., a resident of Imelda, Zamboanga Sibugay. According to authorities, the tragic discovery was made by his landlady, who found Derick’s body already lifeless and in a state of decomposition inside his rented room.

Initial investigation showed that the young man allegedly drank poison and tied a piece of cloth around his neck. Police believe the incident occurred the night before he was found, as neighbors had begun noticing a foul odor coming from his room.

Investigators are looking into family issues and a recent breakup as possible reasons behind the student’s decision to end his life. Before the incident, Derick reportedly updated his Facebook bio to the haunting message, “End is near,” which is now seen as a cry for help.

Authorities said this is already the sixth suicide case recorded in Zamboanga del Sur this November alone, raising alarm over the growing mental health crisis among the youth.
