JOLO, Sulu – The Jolo Municipal Police Station conducted a surprise operation on the evening of July 18 at around 9:30 p.m. at the Hambuok Beer House located in Upper Kasulutan, Barangay Bus-Bus, as part of its ongoing campaign to regulate public drinking and maintain community order.

According to PLTCOL Annidul Sali, Chief of Police of Jolo, the beer house was operating in violation of community safety standards, prompting law enforcement to act swiftly. A total of 13 cases of alcoholic beverages—specifically Red Horse and San Miguel Beer—were confiscated during the operation.

PLTCOL Sali stated that the establishment was located dangerously close to a main road, with patrons drinking carelessly along the roadside. “The situation posed a safety hazard for both the drinkers and passersby. Aside from that, the consumption of strong alcoholic drinks like these often leads to poor decision-making and contributes to social problems,” he said.

No arrests were made during the operation, but individuals found drinking at the site were brought to the police station for proper documentation and counseling.

The Jolo Police warn that more operations may follow in efforts to discourage irresponsible public drinking and the sale of intoxicating beverages in unsafe or inappropriate locations. They are also calling on establishment owners to observe community rules and consider the welfare of their patrons and the general public.

“Let this be a reminder that while we respect personal freedoms, the safety and well-being of the community comes first,” PLTCOL Sali added.

Local residents have expressed support for the move, citing rising concerns about noise, disorder, and public intoxication in the area.

The police are expected to coordinate with barangay officials in enforcing stricter monitoring of similar establishments in the municipality.
