Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Sur – July 20, 2025 — Law enforcers successfully intercepted over ₱1.1 million worth of smuggled cigarettes in a nighttime anti-smuggling operation at a border control checkpoint in Barangay Kamasi, Ampatuan.
The operation, which took place at around 9:00 p.m. on July 19, was led by PCPT Guiseppe Q. Tamayo, Chief of Police of Ampatuan Municipal Police Station, under the direct supervision of PCOL Sultan Salman H. Sapal, Provincial Director of the Maguindanao del Sur Police Provincial Office (PPO).
In coordination with the Regional Intelligence Division of PRO Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (lead unit) and the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company, authorities arrested three suspects and confiscated 57 master cases and four reams of Fort brand menthol cigarettes—items valued at approximately ₱1,141,600.00.
“This accomplishment highlights the relentless efforts of our police force in protecting the nation’s economy from illicit trade. We remain committed to upholding the rule of law and safeguarding our communities,” PCOL Sapal stated.
He further emphasized the vigilance of the police force, even during late hours, saying, “Walang matutulog na pulis, hanggat hindi natutulog ang mamamayan.”
Authorities are preparing charges against the suspects, while the seized contraband will be turned over to the Bureau of Customs for proper disposition.
The Maguindanao del Sur PPO reaffirmed its dedication to intensifying border security and anti-smuggling operations in the region.
