May 20, 2025 | Butuan City — A high-value individual allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade was arrested in a successful buy-bust operation on May 19 in Barangay Taft, Surigao City, Surigao del Norte, according to the Police Regional Office in Caraga.
The operation, conducted by the Surigao City Component Police Station in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Surigao del Norte Provincial Office, led to the apprehension of a 44-year-old suspect identified only by the alias “Junjun,” a resident of Surigao City.
Authorities recovered approximately 15 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated street value of ₱102,000 from the suspect during the sting operation.
PBGen Christopher N. Abrahano, regional director of PNP Caraga, confirmed the arrest and emphasized the regional police’s commitment to eradicating illegal drugs.
“The battle against illegal drugs is not ours alone; it is a fight we must all face together. With the full support of all sectors in the community, we can dismantle drug networks and apprehend those involved in the illegal drug trade,” PBGen Abrahano said in a statement.
The suspect is now in custody and will face charges for violating Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The arrest marks another stride in the region’s intensified campaign against illegal drugs.
