Zamboanga City, Philippines – A successful anti-drug operation conducted by the City Drug Enforcement Unit of the Zamboanga City Police Office, in collaboration with the Regional Intelligence Unit 9 (RIU 9) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), led to the arrest of two high-value individuals (HVI) in Barangay Kasanyangan, Zamboanga City.
The operation took place at approximately 6:16 AM on February 5, 2025, in Phase 3, Sitio Asinan, resulting in the seizure of 11 heat-sealed transparent plastic packs containing methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu. Authorities estimate the total street value of the illegal drugs at ₱3,740,000.00, based on standard drug pricing. Additionally, one (1) unit of a .38 caliber Armscor revolver with four (4) live rounds of ammunition was confiscated from the suspects.
The apprehended individuals are now facing multiple charges for violations of Republic Act No. 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and Republic Act No. 10591, the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. Furthermore, they will also be charged under the Omnibus Election Code for illegal possession of firearms during the election period.
Brigadier General Roel C. Rodolfo, Regional Director of Police Regional Office 9 (PRO 9), reaffirmed the police force’s dedication to combating illegal drug activities in the region. “We will continue to go after individuals involved in these illegal activities. As part of our mandate, we remain committed to ensuring the safety of the public,” he stated.
The successful operation highlights PRO 9’s intensified efforts in line with the national government’s campaign against illegal drugs and criminality. Authorities encourage the public to report any suspicious activities as part of the ongoing drive to create a safer and drug-free community.
