Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur – October 21, 2024
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has made a substantial financial investment in the livelihoods of local communities in Agusan del Sur, distributing ₱29,130,000 to 62 livelihood associations across various municipalities. The ceremonial turnover of funds took place on Monday at the Provincial Learning Center Convention Hall in Patin-ay, Prosperidad, and was led by DSWD Caraga Chief Administrative Officer Ramil Taculod.
This funding is part of the DSWD’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), which aims to empower communities and improve their economic stability. In his address to the beneficiaries, Governor Santi Cane Jr. stressed the importance of responsible financial management, urging recipients to ensure the sustainability of their projects and to contribute to poverty reduction in the province.
Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Razel Montemor announced that an additional 31 SLP beneficiaries from Agusan del Sur are set to receive support soon, as they are currently completing the necessary documentation to qualify for the program.
The funding allocation reflects the diverse needs of the communities in Agusan del Sur. Of the total amount, ₱21,930,000 was allocated to 43 organizations for regular livelihood projects, ₱4,500,000 was designated for 10 associations involved in zero hunger initiatives, and ₱2,700,000 was earmarked for 9 groups operating in conflict-vulnerable areas under Executive Order 70.
In a significant move to further legitimize these initiatives, the various associations were also awarded accreditation certificates as Civil Society Organizations. This accreditation will enable them to operate their livelihood projects with increased legitimacy and access to resources.
The SLP aims to enhance communities’ capacity to generate income by providing skills training, resources, and support for small business development. This comprehensive approach not only seeks to improve economic well-being but also aspires to create a more equitable and sustainable future for the residents of Agusan del Sur.
The DSWD’s investment marks a crucial step toward fostering resilience and self-sufficiency among local communities, paving the way for long-term development and prosperity.
