Kiamba, Sarangani Province (October 16, 2024) – A joint operation led by the Kiamba Municipal Police Station (MPS) successfully intercepted a shipment of smuggled cigarettes valued at ₱20,000 during a routine checkpoint at Sitio Bialong, Barangay Poblacion.
The operation, conducted in coordination with other law enforcement units, resulted in the seizure of 50 reams of Cannon cigarettes. Authorities flagged down a Mitsubishi Mirage G4 GLX 1, metallic titanium gray in color, during the checkpoint. Upon initial inspection, three reams of Cannon cigarettes were visibly located in the back of the car.
The driver, identified as “Jam,” a 46-year-old male from Barangay Lagao, General Santos City, failed to produce the necessary documentation for the cigarettes and his driver’s license when requested by the authorities. Upon further inspection, officers discovered an additional 47 reams of Cannon cigarettes hidden in the car’s compartment.
The total market value of the seized contraband is estimated at ₱20,000.
The suspect was promptly arrested and, along with the confiscated items, was taken to Kiamba MPS for further documentation and investigation. Charges related to smuggling and the violation of customs regulations are expected to be filed against the suspect.
This operation highlights the continued efforts of the Sarangani police to curb smuggling activities in the region, ensuring the safety of the local economy and compliance with customs laws.
